Andy Sirel, co-founding Partner and Legal Director at JustRight Scotland, has been named Law Champion of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards 2026.
Andy will be presented with the award at the Scottish Legal Awards dinner on Thursday 17 September 2026 at DoubleTree by Hilton, Glasgow Central, where Scotland’s legal profession will come together to celebrate outstanding achievement across the sector.
The Law Champion of the Year Award recognises an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the legal profession and wider society, using their expertise, influence and commitment to make a meaningful difference.
Andy is a co-founding Partner and Legal Director at JustRight Scotland (JRS), a legal charity which works to defend and extend people’s human rights while partnering with communities to help change systems that create barriers to justice.
Through his work at JustRight Scotland, Andy and his team support people who face structural barriers to accessing justice, using the law to protect rights, challenge inequality and hold those in positions of power to account.
With more than 16 years of experience working with migrant women and young people, Andy has developed extensive expertise across asylum, family reunion, anti-trafficking and children’s rights.
His contribution extends beyond his legal practice. Andy sits on a number of UK and Scottish governmental working groups and regularly provides evidence to Parliament on issues relating to human rights and access to justice. He is also a respected media commentator, contributing his expertise to wider discussions around the rights of migrants, children and communities facing barriers within the legal system.
His work throughout his career has demonstrated a sustained commitment to ensuring the law is accessible to those who need it most and to creating lasting change through both legal action and policy.
The Law Champion of the Year Award recognises Andy’s significant contribution to advancing human rights, improving access to justice and championing the needs of individuals and communities who can too often find themselves excluded from the legal system.
Andy will receive his award at the 23rd annual Scottish Legal Awards, taking place on Thursday 17 September 2026 at DoubleTree by Hilton, Glasgow Central.
