The national celebration for the Scottish legal industry has revealed the recipient of its ultimate individual award as part of celebrations of its 20th annual event.

The Scottish Legal Awards, sponsored by 123 Medical Services, has announced that Jennifer Young, Managing Partner at Ledingham Chalmers Solicitors has been awarded Managing Partner of the Year.

The award is presented in recognition of her work as the lead partner of the full-service firm which has a headcount of 207 – including 26 partners – working across eight locations in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness, Stirling, and Thainstone near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire.

The award is presented annually by an independent judging panel to recognise an individual legal leader who is championing positive change in the legal sector.

The independent programme is chaired by former CEO of the Law Society of Scotland, Lorna Jack. She commented;

“At Ledingham Chalmers, Jennifer has driven innovation and implemented strategy, showcasing all the traits of an outstanding leader. Her capacity to listen and interact with people over many business sectors appears to be one of her greatest strengths. Not only has she brough success to Ledingham Chalmers but also thrives as the chair of CBI Scotland, member of YPO (Young Presidents’ Organisation) and Law Society of Scotland's construction law accreditation panel.  The judging panel are delighted to present this award to Jennifer for her numerous accomplishments and for being a true role model in the legal sector.”

Accepting the award, Jennifer Young commented;

“I’d like to express my sincere thanks to the judging panel, I’m extremely grateful to receive this award.

“Of course, those of us in any kind of management role will know we’re all at our best when we’re part of a collective effort, and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by exceptionally talented colleagues in a firm that’s focused on growth.

“And that’s particularly important in our profession at the moment when one of the biggest challenges we face is the speed of change: the market is changing dramatically, client demand is changing, and how we deliver legal services is changing. That means it’s an exciting time to be a lawyer — it’s certainly a challenge — but it’s one my colleagues and I are up for.”

The award is sponsored by 123 Medical Services, also the headline sponsors of the 2023 and 2024 Scottish Legal Awards.

Sairah Din, Managing Director of 123 Medical Services, commented;

“We congratulate Jennifer Young on her most deserved win at the Scottish Legal Awards and delighted to make a personal presentation to her.  She is a fantastic example of a legal leader and great inspiration to many others working in any field of law.”

The presentation will be part of an evening’s celebration where 37 organisations are shortlisted for their efforts and 16 awards will be presented. 450 guests are confirmed at the Scottish Legal Awards celebration dinner which takes place on 29th September 2023 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
